A fun and family-friendly cycle ride starting and finishing in the beautiful historic town of Caerleon. With a choice of 5 routes there’s something for everyone. Finishers and spectators alike can enjoy the ‘Finish Festival’ at The Priory. All money raised from the Dalmatian Bike Ride 2024 will go towards the continued work of St David’s Hospice Care.

Online registration for 2024 is now closed. If you want to join the ride you can sign up on the day. Just come along to the registration tent for the time of your chosen ride. Registration times for each route are detailed in the ‘Route Start Times’ section below.

Information
- This is not a race! It’s a personal challenge for fun.
- 18, 39, 59 and 101km routes around Newport. We also see the return of the popular 72.5km (45 mile) canal route.
- Rolling start from Caerleon – times to be allocated.
- Arrive back at The Priory, Caerleon for a fantastic finish festival & BBQ.
- Marshals, maps, water stations, feed stations and medical cover provided.
- Dalmatian themed fancy dress encouraged!
- Please help your hospice care service to continue by raising a minimum of £50 in sponsorship.
- Once registered you will receive an information pack along with your t-shirt prior to the event.
Rules
- Riders take full responsibility for themselves for the duration of the event.
- A helmet must be worn at all times.
- Riders are expected to abide by the Highway Code.
- Riders to be mindful and respectful of pedestrians.
Age Restrictions
- 18km / 10 mile route: No minimum age but all riders have to be accompanied by an adult
- 39 km / 24 mile route: (Nash): Minimum age 12 (on day of event)
- 59 km / 37 mile route: (Magor): Minimum age 16 (on day of event)
- 5 km / 45 mile route: (Brecon to Newport): Minimum age 16 (on day of event)
- 101 km / 63 mile Configur route: (Old Severn Bridge): Minimum age 16 (on day of event)
Route Start Times
- 101km (63 Mile) – Configur route – Registration from 9am – with a rolling start from 09:30am
- 72.5km (45 Mile) – Fire and Stove Shop route – Registration from 7am. Coach leave for Brecon at 7:30am
- 59km (37 Mile) – Protect Electrical route – Registration from 09:30am – with a rolling start from 10:15am
- 39km (24 Mile) – Autocentre route – Registration from 10am – with a rolling start from 11am
- 18km (10 Mile) – Riverfront route – Registration from 10.30am – with rolling start from 11.15am

Fire and Stove Shop Route
Route Description
- 72.5km/45 miles
- Sponsored by the Fire and Stove Shop
- Transport included from Caerleon to the start in Brecon.
- Follow the Mon Brec Canal all the way back to Caerleon.
- Water and feed stations located along the route.
Route Detail
- The route will start in Brecon and take you along the scenic towpath back towards Caerleon.
- You will pass through Llangynidr, Crickhowell, Govilon, Llanover, Mamhilad, Pontypool and Bettws before leaving the canal for the final leg down to Caerleon along the river.
- Finish at The Priory for a the finish festival.
Configur Route
Route Description
- 101km/63 miles
- Sponsored by Configur
- With a start & finish at Caerleon, the route takes place on a mixture of cycle paths and smaller roads firstly in Newport and then into Monmouthshire and over the Old Severn Crossing into England. You will pass through Nash, Magor, Chepstow with feed stations along the way.
- Cyclists are supported with vehicles that are on hand for support for the ride duration together with marshals and an event control number for direct contact.
Route Detail
- The Caerleon Cycle path out of Caerleon
- Through Crindau (This is not a closed road section)
- Along the fabulous Newport Riverfront and onto the SDR Bridge
- The route then follows Corporation Road until Nash
- At this point, the route follows the lanes around Nash (This is not a closed road section)
- From Nash we head to Magor, and out towards Chepstow
- At Chepstow, we travel over the OId Severn Bridge to England with a feed station at the Service Station
- At this point, we turnaround and head home to the finish line at the Priory in Caerleon.
Protect Electrical Route
Route Description
- 59km/37 miles
- Sponsored by Protect Electrical
- With a start & finish at Caerleon the route takes place on a mixture of cycle paths and smaller roads in and around Newport you will pass through Nash with a turnaround point in Magor.
- This route has two feed/water stations.
- Cyclists are supported with vehicles which are on hand for support for the ride duration.
Route Detail
- The Caerleon Cycle path out of Caerleon
- Through Crindau (This is not a closed road section)
- Along the fabulous Riverfront and onto the SDR Bridge
- The route then follows Corporation Road until Nash
- At this point, the route follows the lanes around Nash (This is not a closed road section)
- From Nash we head to Magor, at which point we turnaround and head home on the same route to the finish line at the Priory in Caerleon.
Autocentres Route
Route Description
- 39km/24 miles
- Sponsored by Autocentres
- With a start & finish at Caerleon the route takes place on a mixture of cycle paths and smaller roads in and around Newport with Nash being the major reference point.
- This route has one feed/water station.
- Cyclists are supported with vehicles which are on hand for support for the ride duration.
Route Detail
- The Caerleon Cycle path out of Caerleon
- Through Crindau (This is not a closed road section)
- Along the fabulous Riverfront and onto the SDR Bridge
- The route then follows Corporation Road until Nash
- At this point, the route follows lanes around Nash to then follow the same route home to the finish line at the Priory in Caerleon. (This is not a closed road section)
Floff Route
Route Description
- 18km/10 miles
- Sponsored by Floff Vanilla Vodka
- With a start & finish at Caerleon the route mainly takes place on cycle paths with some smaller roads in and around Newport .
- This route follows the river Usk down to Newport SDR bridge and back along the riverfront.
- Cyclists are supported with vehicles which are on hand for support for the ride duration.
Route Detail
- The Caerleon Cycle path out of Caerleon
- Through Crindau (This is not a closed road section)
- Along the fabulous Riverfront and onto the SDR Bridge
- Over the SDR Bridge and following the other side of the river you rejoin your original route at the Millennium Footbridge
- From here follow the same route in reverse back to Caerleon
